This week I am exhibiting with my course (BA (Hons) Sustainable Product Design at Falmouth University) at New Designers at the Business Design Centre in Angel. I thought I'd meet up with my dad who has recently moved offices to hipster Shoreditch. We walked around to find somewhere to have lunch and found this hidden place called Dinerama, 5-10min walk from Old Street tube station. This place combines a variety of different food styles, from Duck-N-Roll (pulled duck wraps and buns) to Dick's Magic Tiki Bar (a rum bar with a view). Take your pick and then find a place to eat, either downstairs or upstairs on the open roof top where there is another bar to quench your thirst. Greenery around the space creates a balance with the industrial aesthetic. Just what you need after a long day in the office nearby. As my dad pointed out, this place looked like what a 5-year old would think is a fun place to eat at, but funnily enough, adults find it quite amusing too! A little bit of fresh air and quirkiness from the busy London lifestyle. A fresh ice-tea and some baby-pink chairs on the open-air roof terrace. Shoreditch art & graffiti on our way out

On Sunday morning, we took an early train from King's Cross in London to Cambridge. It was raining on our way there so we crossed our fingers it would get nicer later on! When we arrived, we walked to the centre, looking around the colleges, scattered around the town. In front of King's College, we found a tour that had just started and decided to join in. The guide was a student, and it was a free tour (the best kind of tours to do if you don't want to pay too much, just a nice tip at the end, and you get a very motivated and cultured guide). We walked all around Cambridge, finding out about how to get into the prestigious University, looking at where the students study, the famous pubs, laboratories and other places where important discoveries where found… After the tour we went for a typical English pub lunch, and we all had a Sunday roast. In Cambridge, you have to try punting so we all got on the boats after lunch and set off on the river Cam. Luckily for us, the sun decided to come out just at that time which was perfect! Watching people (and us) zig-zaging along the river was very entertaining. Finally, after all the walking and the punting, we sat down in the garden of a pub, to have some Pimm's as you should do in July (one of my favourite drinks).
We drove all the way to Kynance Cove for our first stop. Beautiful view, lovely to be out in the fresh air. There is a little cafe down in the cove but it was closed when we went. Great place for a picnic! Mum came down to see me this week so we went on an adventure on Wednesday. Tuesday evening we went to Dolly's for tea (thought I'd add this too), they have amazing scones! I really like this place. (If you go in the evening, they also serve cocktails in teapots and teacups...) We then drove to the Lizard, the famous most southerly point of the UK! Lots of very dramatic events happened here, which was hard to imagine on this very sunny, warm and calm day! We had lunch at Polpeor Cafe, fish and chips of course for me. Food was very nice and arrived quickly. Our last stop was Porthleven, where we saw surfers and had some Cornish ice cream at Nauti But Ice. Nice end to a lovely day!
We had a little road trip in my car to Durgan this week, and we walked to the Ferry Boat Inn, a lovely pub, where I had (after such a "long" walk) a sticky toffee pudding.
It was very nice to get some fresh air and walk along the coast, the sea was beautifully turquoise, although too cold for a swim. I wanted to go swimming at the Helston sports centre, but there were classes so I decided to check out Porthleven which was only 10 minutes away.
Here are a few photos of the lovely port on a very sunny day! |
